Quarry Textured Wall Art - Large Neutral 3D Canvas

Quarry is a large hand-finished textured canvas from Sydney Mirrors, available in three sizes up to 210x120cm, with raised relief in cream, white, grey and beige.

The palette runs through warm neutrals with a hint of black cutting through it. That thread of dark is what stops it going flat. It gives the eye something to follow and keeps the piece from disappearing into a beige room.

The relief is applied by hand and sits proud of the canvas, so you can feel the surface and the shadows move as the light changes through the day. A printed canvas has its shadows fixed in the image. This one does not.

Think weathered stone rather than smooth plaster. There is more tonal variation here than in our other pieces, which makes it the easiest of the hand-finished designs to place in a room that already has timber, linen and stone in it.

How Quarry compares. Quarry, Ridge, Alabaster, Tide and Onyx are the hand-finished pieces. Alabaster is pure white on white and works on shadow alone. Ridge and Onyx are black and white. Quarry is the neutral one with the widest tonal range, which makes it the easiest of them to place.

Can Quarry hang portrait or landscape?

Both. The D loops are fitted so it goes either way up. Hang it landscape above a sofa or bed, or portrait on a tall narrow wall or in an entry.

Is the texture on Quarry real, or printed?

Real. The relief is applied by hand and sits proud of the canvas, so you can feel it and the shadows shift as the light moves. Quarry, Ridge, Alabaster, Tide and Onyx all have genuine raised texture. Dune, Drift, Strata and Basalt are printed canvases that look sculptural but are smooth.

Which neutral piece should I choose, Quarry or Alabaster?

Alabaster is pure white with no contrast at all, so it is the quieter of the two and needs side light to show properly. Quarry has cream, grey and beige with a hint of black, so it reads clearly in most light and suits a room with timber and stone already in it.

Why does Quarry cost more than Dune or Drift?

Because the surface is hand-finished rather than printed. The material is built up on the canvas by hand, which takes longer and gives you a physical surface instead of a photograph of one.

Will every piece look exactly the same?

Close, but not identical. Because the relief is applied by hand, small variations in the strokes are normal and expected. That is the nature of a hand-finished piece rather than a fault.

Can I buy Quarry online, and do you deliver to Melbourne or Brisbane?

Textured pieces are packed with corner protection and surface padding so the relief is not crushed in transit. What size should I choose?

Hanging landscape above a sofa or bed, aim for roughly two thirds of the furniture width. A 210cm sofa or a queen bed suits the 140 x 105cm piece, a 250cm to 280cm sofa or a king bed suits the 180 x 120cm. Hanging portrait, measure the wall instead and aim to fill about two thirds of its width. Leave 15cm to 25cm between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
