Alabaster Textured Wall Art - Large White 3D Canvas
Alabaster is a large hand-finished textured canvas from Sydney Mirrors, available in three sizes up to 210x120cm, with white-on-white relief you can feel.
Overlapping petal forms are built up by hand across the surface. There is no colour and no contrast anywhere in it. The whole piece works on shadow alone, which is why it changes so much through the day as the light moves across the wall.
Morning side light makes it dramatic. Flat midday light makes it calm. That is not something a printed canvas can do, because a print has its shadows fixed in the image.
All-white art is harder to get right than people expect. Get it wrong and it disappears into the wall. Alabaster works because the relief is deep enough to hold its own shadow, so you read the form rather than a blank panel.
It works both ways up. Hang Alabaster landscape above a sofa or a bed, or turn it portrait for a tall narrow wall. The D loops are fitted so it goes either way. Whichever way you hang it, put it where light crosses the wall from one side.
It arrives framed and ready to hang, with nothing to assemble and no framing cost on top. Order online for delivery across Australia, or collect from our Botany showroom in Sydney.
How Alabaster compares. Alabaster, Ridge, Quarry, Tide and Onyx are the hand-finished pieces. Alabaster is the only all-white one, and it works through shadow instead of contrast. Chalk is the other pale piece but its texture is much lighter. If you like Dune or Drift and want texture you can actually feel, Alabaster is the step up.

Frequently asked questions
Can Alabaster hang portrait or landscape?
Both. The D loops are fitted so it goes either way up. Hang it landscape above a sofa or bed, or portrait on a tall narrow wall. Either way, put it where light crosses the wall from one side so the relief reads.
Is the texture on Alabaster real, or printed?
Real. The relief is applied by hand and sits proud of the canvas, so you can feel it and the shadows shift as the light moves. Alabaster, Ridge, Quarry, Tide and Onyx all have genuine raised texture. Dune, Strata, Drift and Basalt are printed canvases that look sculptural but are smooth.
Will all-white wall art just disappear on a white wall?
Not with relief this deep. The piece reads through shadow rather than colour, so it holds its shape against a white or off-white wall. It shows best where light comes across the wall from one side rather than straight on.
Alabaster or Chalk, which pale piece should I choose?
Alabaster is pure white with deep relief that needs side light to show properly. Chalk is warmer, with cream and beige running through it, and the texture is much lighter so it reads in any light. Choose Alabaster if you want the surface to be the whole point.
Why does Alabaster cost more than Dune or Drift?
Because the surface is hand-finished rather than printed. The material is built up on the canvas by hand, which takes longer and gives you a physical surface instead of a photograph of one.
Will every piece look exactly the same?
Close, but not identical. Because the relief is applied by hand, small variations in the forms are normal and expected. That is the nature of a hand-finished piece rather than a fault.
Can I buy Alabaster online, and do you deliver to Melbourne or Brisbane?
Yes to both. Order online and we ship Australia-wide, with in-stock orders usually arriving within 3 to 10 business days. Textured pieces are packed with corner protection and surface padding so the relief is not crushed in transit. Sydney customers can collect from our showroom at 48 Chegwyn St, Botany NSW 2019, open Friday 2pm to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 4pm.
What size should I choose?
Hanging landscape above a sofa or bed, aim for roughly two thirds of the furniture width. A 210cm sofa or a queen bed suits the 140 x 105cm piece, a 250cm to 280cm sofa or a king bed suits the 180 x 120cm. Hanging portrait, measure the wall instead and aim to fill about two thirds of its width. Leave 15cm to 25cm between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
