Size

Chalk is a large hand-finished canvas from Sydney Mirrors, available in three sizes up to 210x120cm, and it hangs portrait or landscape.

Cream, soft white and warm beige, with raised paint worked over the surface by hand. The relief here is subtle rather than sculptural. You feel it under your fingers and you catch it in raking light, but it does not stand off the wall the way our micro-plaster pieces do.

That restraint is the point. Chalk is the quietest way to add real texture to a room, which makes it the easy choice for a bedroom, or for a space that already has enough going on. Nothing in it competes with your furniture.

It works both ways up. Hang Chalk full length on a tall narrow wall, or landscape above a sofa or a bed. Every piece in our range hangs either way, so you are not locked into one wall.

It arrives framed and ready to hang, with nothing to assemble and no framing cost on top. Order online for delivery across Australia, or collect from our Botany showroom in Sydney.

How Chalk compares. Chalk and Alabaster are the two pale hand-finished pieces, and they are not the same thing. Alabaster is pure white with deep sculptural relief that needs side light to read. Chalk is warmer, with cream and beige in it, and the texture is lighter so it reads in any light. If you want subtle, choose Chalk. If you want the surface to be the whole point, choose Alabaster. Dune and Drift are the printed neutrals if you want the look without the hand finish.

Frequently asked questions

Can Chalk hang portrait or landscape?

Both. The D loops are fitted so it goes either way up, so you can hang it full length on a tall wall or landscape above a sofa or bed. Every piece in our wall art range works in both orientations.

How raised is the texture?

Lightly. The paint is applied by hand and sits proud of the canvas, so you can feel it, but this is not deep sculptural relief. If you want texture that throws a real shadow and changes through the day, Alabaster, Quarry, Ridge, Tide or Onyx are the micro-plaster pieces. Chalk is the understated one.

Chalk or Alabaster, which should I choose?

Alabaster is pure white with deep relief and it needs side light to show properly. Chalk is warmer, with cream and beige running through it, and the texture is lighter so it reads well in any light. Choose Chalk if you want texture you notice up close rather than across the room.

Will it suit a beige or Japandi room?

That is what it is built for. There is no colour in it to clash with anything, and the warm tones sit naturally with linen, timber, rattan and travertine.

Will every piece look exactly the same?

Close, but not identical. Because the paint is applied by hand, small variations are normal and expected. That is the nature of a hand-finished piece rather than a fault.

Can I buy Chalk online, and do you deliver to Melbourne or Brisbane?

Yes to both. Order online and we ship Australia-wide, with in-stock orders usually arriving within 3 to 10 business days. Sydney customers can collect from our showroom at 48 Chegwyn St, Botany NSW 2019, open Friday 2pm to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 4pm.

What size should I choose?

Hanging landscape above a sofa or bed, aim for roughly two thirds of the furniture width. A 210cm sofa or a queen bed suits the 140 x 105cm piece, a 250cm to 280cm sofa or a king bed suits the 180 x 120cm. Hanging portrait, measure the wall and aim to fill about two thirds of its width. Leave 15cm to 25cm between the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
